Let’s Throw an Eco-Friendly Baby Shower!
Need to throw a baby shower and want to do it without all the waste? Here are some tips for doing just that!
- Invites
- Reach out to your guests with electronic invites or print your invitations on paper made from recycled materials.

- Gifts
- Ask your guests to use compostable gift wrap or recycle old gift bags – you could even wrap your gift in a bamboo baby blanket for a waste-reducing two-for-one!
- Create a green registry to make it easier for your friends to find the eco-friendly baby shower gifts you prefer.
- Decorations and Party Ware
- Instead of using balloons or streamers to decorate, use natural materials like flowers and plants. As a result, you’ll produce less waste and remind your guests of the natural theme of the party.
- Use cloth tablecloths rather than plastic. They look nicer anyway, and they are reusable – someday this baby will have a birthday party and you can whip them out again!
- Use compostable partyware or actual dishes/silverware. You could even get some people to help out with dishwashing after the party is over!
- Games
- Try to avoid games with too many paper print-outs – use a chalkboard or dry-erase board instead if you want to play games like this that you don’t plan on keeping for a scrapbook.
- Have the shower outside if the weather is agreeable!
- You won’t have to pay to rent a space, use lighting and air conditioning/heating, or, most importantly, clean up your own home to have a bunch of people come over!
- Don’t forget to have a recycling bin on hand for any recyclable waste you do produce!
